We’ve had an exciting two weeks as we began our theme: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths). The children had a fantastic time exploring simple science and experiments through hands-on play. Some of the activities we explored this topic have included:
-
Colour Mixing – The children were so excited to see colours change as they mixed different paints together.
-
Mini Volcano Experiment – A big hit! They loved watching the reaction and learning about how things work which led on to experimenting with smaller versions of reactions.
-
Foil and oil painting – Using oils with paints on foil to watch how the paint smears and moves differently to paper.
-
Sink and Float Experiment – The toddlers were fascinated to see which items floated and which ones sank after making guesses.
Activities to Try at Home: To support our STEM theme at home, you might like to try some of these simple activities together:
-
Building with blocks or household items.
-
Melting coloured ice cubes and observing the colour mixing.
-
Tissue paper “walking water” experiment which you can find on YouTube.
