❄️Winter wonderland and our wonderful families!❄️
🪔We started off our week by celebrating 'Kartik Purnima', which is the holiest month of the Hindu Calendar
The children had a great time exploring holy floral water. 🪷
🏴The children had a blast celebrating St. Andrews Day. They made Scottish Tatties with the children, who took them home to enjoy.
🎄As it is the first of December (which is so exciting!) we also enjoyed a variety of Christmas/winter activities this week such as;
Winter Woodland animal tray
Making Christmas decorations
A snowy science experiment
Gingerbread Play dough and mint play dough
Winter wonderland shaving foam
Jumping on snowflakes and counting them
Feeding animals in a snow scene
Mark making in snow
🎅🏻To further explore this theme, why not try making some salt dough tree decorations or baking your own gingerbread men at home? Share some pictures with us if you do! ❤️

❤️Play Dough!❤️
At Marleigh, the children often have the opportunity to explore clay and make their own play dough. There are numerous benefits to playing with malleable materials such as play dough - it provides a sensory experience, helps develop fine motor skills, has a calming effect on children, encourages creativity, and improves social skills. ☺️
If you'd like to try making play dough at home, here is our recipe:
-2 cups of plain flour
-3 tablespoons of vegetable oil
-1/2 cup of salt
-2 tablespoons of cream of tartar
-1 to 1.5 cups of boiling water (add gradually until it reaches the desired consistency)
You can also enhance the sensory experience by adding other materials such as food colouring (add this to the water), natural scents such as lavender, mint and spices. You can also explore adding different textures and tools such as flowers, potato mashers, forks, corks, rice, pine cones, herbs, etc. 🪻🌸
Play dough is open-ended which means it allows children to use their imagination and create whatever they desire without any limitations! The results are endless 🌟 Have fun exploring!

🎨Process over product!🎨
At Monkey Puzzle Marleigh, we believe that it is not about the final product. It's all about the process. Vygotsky says "it must not be forgotten that the basic law of children's creativity is that it's value lies not in it's results, not in the product of creation, but in the process itself".
All of our children will be creating wonderful Christmas crafts but these will all be unique and exactly the way the children want to make it. We will not place their hands down on paper to make a reindeer for example as this is made by the adult not the child. Maybe the child wanted to create a snowman with rainbow colours instead... ☃️🎄🖌️
Everything we do at our setting is child led and led by the children's interests. We provide an example of what craft they could make with the tools provided and they can then interpret this how they want to.
See some examples below of our before and after art creations. 🖼️

💛Children in need💛
"BBC Children in Need believes that every child should have the chance to thrive and be the best they can be."
Children in Need is an incredible charity that the children supported today. They came together with their parents to raise awareness and money for this important cause.
To show their support, the children dressed up as superheroes, created their own Pudsey bears, made pudsey from play dough and explored a sensory tray filled with hay. During a group session, they had a discussion about the charity and its mission. 🎨🦸♀️
The preschool and toddler groups also participated in a yoga session, as this year Children in Need is focusing on movement! The parents got involved by donating money through a fun guessing game. They guessed the name of a bear and the number of bears in a jar. The lucky winner got to keep the bear as a prize!🧸
We are carrying on the donations into next week but the jar is looking quite full already! 🥹🥰

🚑🚦People who help us week two! 👮♀️🩺
Last week was our final week of "people who help us". The children had two very exciting visitors - some policemen! The policemen gave the children a talk about their job and talked to them about the equipment they use which they got to try on. The children took it in turns to sit in the police car and listened to the siren and watched the bright lights. This led to the children wearing fancy dress for the rest of the day and engaging in police role play.
Furthermore, the children engaged in activities such as climbing a ladder through fire, did some pretend baking, built some houses from blocks and shaving foam, made fizzy moon rocks and learnt about astronauts, made their own casts and casts for dolls, sorted out recycling, engaged in a dentist activity where they learnt about the importance of oral hygiene and they also pretended to be shop assistants where they took turns in being a till person and the customers. 🚀🛒
This week, our focus is "our families are super heroes" so we have been asking parents about their careers and asking for family photos as we have some exciting activities planned for them 🥰
